Alloy 6061 is one of the most widely used alloys in the 600 series. This standard structural alloy is popular for medium to high strength requirements and has good toughness characteristics. Applications range from transportation components to machinery and equipment applications to recreation products and consumer durables. Alloy 6061 has excellent corrosion resistance to atmospheric conditions and good corrosion resistance to sea water. This alloy also offers good finishing characteristics and responds well to anodizing. Alloy 6061 is easily welded and joined by various commercial methods. Since 6061 is heat-treatable alloy, strength in its – T6 condition can be reduced in the weld region.
Aluminum Alloy 6063, one of the most popular alloys in the 6000 series, provides good extrudability and high quality surface finish. In heat-treated condition, alloy 6063 provides good resistance to general corrosion, including resistance to stress corrosion cracking. It is easily welded or brazed by various commercial methods. Since 6063 is a heat treatable alloy, strength in its T6 condition can be reduced in the weld region. Alloy 6063 is often used for electrical application in the T5, T52 and T6 conditions due to its good electrical conductivity.
